Stephen Thomas, who immigrated from the U.K., is a highly qualified piano technician with over 40 years of experience.

In 1981 Stephen began his training at the Royal National College for the Bind and Partial Sighted, located in Hereford, England. Here he qualified with an Honours Diploma in 1984.

He spent three months at the Yamaha – Kemble Music (U.K.) Ltd for additional training. The same year Stephen was awarded the Kemble Prize for Piano Tuning for outstanding work.

In 1984 he moved to Exeter as a self-employed tuner. In 1985 Stephen was offered a position working for P&O Cruise Lines looking after the pianos on two ships. That same year, he came third in a national competition for piano tuning and was subsequently offered a job by a large school district to look after 600 pianos. Along side the tuning for the school district work, Stephen continued to serve his regular clients.

In 1986 he moved to Plymouth, where he could be closer to his primary employment – the school board. In 1992 he became a full member of the Piano Tuners’ Association.

In 1995 Stephen moved to Canada and began working for various stores throughout the Lower Mainland while building clientele concurrently. In 1996 he became an Associate Member of the Piano Technicians’ Guild.

Today, Stephen is the primary piano tuner for various arts and entertainment venues throughout the Vancouver Lower Mainland and the Vancouver School board. He has a wide variety of clients – professional pianists, students, and those who play for enjoyment.
